FULLERTON, Calif. – The Los Angeles Blues walked away with three points at home as they took a 6-0 win against Antigua Barracuda FC at Titan Stadium on Thursday night. Chris Cortez, Rodrigo Lopez, George Davis, Gabriel Gonzalez, and Matt Fondy all contributed to the Blues’ victory, which moved them back into the playoff positions in the USL PRO standings.

The game opened up with the Blues pressuring high, seeing several shots off target until Rodrigo Lopez found Gabriel Gonzalez in the 20th minute for a header that went straight past Molvin James to get the Blues on the scoreboard. Ten minutes later, Cortez began the Blues’ 90 minute display of fireworks with a brilliant solo effort from 18 yards out, cutting the ball back onto his left foot before curling his shot into the far corner.

The Blues had plenty of chances to kill the game before halftime, but poor finishing kept Antigua in the match going into the break. Any chance of a revival for Antigua were killed four minutes into the second half when Cortez got his second with a flying header, following a pin-point cross from Davis.

The Blues continued to mimic the fireworks sounding off around the stadium when Matt Fondy scored his first goal in his season debut in the 59th minute, taking advantage of James’ error after the Barracuda ‘keeper failed to hold Allan Russell’s cross.

In the 78th minute, it was Rodrigo Lopez’ turn to get in and finish one for himself after assisting in the first half, curling his effort beyond James after the Antigua defense game him too much space and time at the top of the box.

Fondy rounded off the scoring in his sensational debut in the 82nd minute, after being put through alone on goal by Lopez. It would be the Blues’ sixth goal of the night and a great finish for the home side with fireworks going off in the distance.

The Blues are now 6-6-5 on the season and travel to Pittsburgh for a Saturday showdown with huge playoff implications.

Barracuda heads to Phoenix for a pair of matches before these two teams meet again on July 13th at Titan Stadium.
